A groundbreaking ceremony to construct Hwajeon Industrial Complex (the worksite chief: Kim Young-In) within Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone was held at the project site in Hwajeon-dong, Gangseo-gu, Busan on October 24, 2006. The complex will serve as a key pillar of the West Busan logistics and industrial production belt.

The ceremony was attended by approximately 1,000 people, including Mayor Huh Nam-Shik of Busan Metropolitan City, the Second Vice Minister Jin Dong-Soo of the Ministry of Finance and Economy, and the Chairman Shin Jeong-Taek of the Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Also in attendance were SsangYong E&C’s President Kim Byung-Ho, Executive Director Yoo Kil-Hwan//, Yeongnam branch chief Shim Jae-Hong, and chiefs from the Company’s other worksites in the region.

The complex, to be built in a 740,000-pyeong (2.44 million sq. meters) area, will include 423,000 pyeong (1.396 million sq. meters) for a high-tech industry complex, 75,000 pyeong (248,000 sq. meters) for a residential and supportive facility zone, and 243,000 pyeong (801,000 sq. meters) for greenery and roads. About 115,000 pyeong (379,000 sq. meters) in the area will become a complex exclusively for foreign investors.

The Section 1 of the project, which SsangYong will construct, involves work to reinforce soft ground, construct four bridges (L=78.4 m), drainage facilities, and duct and pipelines. It also includes the paving of asphalt and concrete in an area extending 885,000 sq. meters around the Shinho-dong and Hwajeon-dong area in Gangseo-gu, Busan.

SsangYong’s President Kim Byung-Ho said during a luncheon with chiefs and staff from worksites in Busan, “The fact that many chiefs from worksites in Busan have participated in today’s groundbreaking ceremony here is a testimony that a coalition of worksite chiefs in the region is functioning very well.” He added, “I sincerely hope our worksite chiefs continue efforts in assuring quality and safety management to keep the Company’s fame going forward.”
