Ssangyong’s Consortium wins a project to construct entry road (section 1) to Yeosu National Industrial Complex

2006-10-26

A consortium including SsangYong E&C won a bid on October 26, 2006 to construct an entry road (section 1) to Yeosu National Industrial Complex, which is hosted by the Public Procurement Service, for KRW 152.5 billion (SsangYong holding 20 percent stake, or KRW 30.5 billion ).

The project entails the construction of a 1,945-meter section from Wolnae-dong to Myodo-dong in Yeosu, South Jeolla Province, of the road linking Yeosu Industrial Complex and Gwangyang Industrial Complex, which includes a cable-stayed bridge (760 meters), and connecting bridges(650 meters). The project will span 1,800 days after the groundbreaking.

A cable-stayed bridge is a type of bridge for which the main pillars slantingly suspend the main girder, and which is large in scale, and is classified as a Class-A bridge requiring sophisticated work. Having won the project, SsangYong is set to participate in the construction of a Class-A bridge for the first time.

Once completed, the road will cut travel distance between the two industrial complexes to less than 10 km from 60 km to replace the role of National Road No 7, where traffic volume has reached its capacity, and will reduce travel time to around 10 minutes, from the current time of 80 minutes.
