The ceremony was hosted by the Korea International Contractors Association (ICAK) of Korea, and the Korea Plant Information and Technology Association, to highlight the expansion of overseas construction and promote plant engineering export. During the event, 37 construction professionals were awarded prizes for their important contributions to the development of Korea’s overseas construction. The event was attended by Choo Byung-Jik, the Construction and Transportation Minister, and Lee Yong-Gu, the Chairman of ICAK, as well as 500 people from the construction industry.

Executive Vice President Kim Seung-Joon, the winner of the presidential award, successfully supervised 14 projects in four countries while working with the Company’s Southeast Asia regional headquarters in Singapore, after gaining extensive experience at project sites such as Raffles City and Hyatt Regency Hotel in Guam, since entering the Company in 1982. Currently, as the chief of the Company’s overseas business headquarters, Kim is making all-out efforts to help SsangYong reenter and expand the overseas construction market, playing a key role in the Company’s bid to take a new leap forward to join the league of top builders.

Ahn Kuk-Jin, winner of the Construction and Transportation Minister’s Award, participated in key construction projects in Singapore including Raffles City, Capital Tower, and Changi Rise Apartment complex, since he entered the Company in 1982. Recently, he served as the head of the bidding team for a project to expand Plaza Indonesia, and another to construct Ocean Front Apartments, playing a major role in winning overseas projects. Currently he is serving as the chief of the Ocean Front Apartment (SIOCA) project worksite.

General Manager KwakDong-Hun, who has been involved with overseas civil engineering projects since entering the Company in 1984, played a crucial role in securing the Second National Highway project and the Third National Highway project in India. In particular, he has been credited for the strong leadership he showed as the chief of the worksite for the Third National Highway project, in successfully completing the project despite many hardships.

Meanwhile, SsangYong carried out seven construction projects valued at USD 396 million in three countries in 2006, ranking the first in the field of overseas civil engineering and construction project implementation among Korean builders.
