SsangYong wins project to install heat pipes along Paju-Goyang duct (Section 2)

2006-11-13

SsangYong E&C won a plant construction project for the first time on November 13, 2006 after launching a plant business division. A consortium led by SsangYong has won the project to install heat pipes along the Paju-Goyang duct (section 2) for KRW 6.7 billion(SsangYong holding KRW 4.7 billion stake, or 70 percent). The order for the project was placed by the Korea District Heating Corp.

The project entails the installation of heat pipes of 850 mm in diameter along a 7,476-meter section between Deogi and Ilsan of the duct linking Paju Cogeneration Power Pant and Ilsan Cogeneration Power Plant. When completed, the pipeline will allow the sharing of heated water supplied to households in areas around the power plants, which will enable flexible operation of the plants, with only one plant operating during times of low demand. The project will be carried out until March 31, 2008, from the date of groundbreaking.

Meanwhile, SsangYong separated the former plant engineering business under the umbrella of the Civil Business and Construction Division, and promoted it to a separate business division on September 1, 2006. The Company plans to boost its capacity in this business by winning more domestic plant projects, while actively seeking to tap into overseas plant markets, including projects in the Middle East.
