SsangYong E&C’s Four Products Win the iF Design Award of Germany

Four apartment products win one of the world’s top three design awards for their first submission, being acclaimed for workable and practical designs for emergency lighting, bicycle rack & lock and two showers

SsangYong Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd. (Chairman & CEO Kim, S. Joon) announced that its four products have won the most coveted design award, the iF Product Design Award 2012, one of the world’s top three design awards.

While a total of 4,332 products were submitted from 48 countries, SsangYong's four products were singled out by the award committee for their outstanding designs.

LED flashlights in an exit sign are designed to be used as emergency lighting, pulling apart from the sign in urgent situations such as fire or power outages. It was praised for its practical and thoughtful design that considers residents’ safety.

The Bicycle Rack & Lock enables installation of a public bicycle stand in the dead space of an apartment complex. Residents can keep their bikes in every corner of the complex using the digital lock kit which is given when they move in.

A simple shower (Equal) helps children and left-handers take a shower without difficulty. The folding chair (Clover) in a shower booth is designed for the elderly and pregnant women and other physically challenged people to sit on while taking a shower. Both were recognized as universal designs for all, regardless of age or ability.

Park, Yoon Seop (Senior Director, the Department of Architecture and Building Technology) said “we were able to achieve the awards thanks to the products’ ingenious design and practicality that make small space more efficient.” He added that the company would apply the designs in most upcoming complexes.

The iF Design Award of Germany, one of the world’s top 3 design competitions along with the Red Dot Design Award of Germany and International Design Excellence Awards, will honor 6o entries as Best of the Best among 1,218 award winners in the early next year.
