Ssangyong E & C (CEO and the chairman: 金錫俊) reported that the W Singapore Sentosa Cove’s boutique center called Quayside Isle, which Ssangyong has been currently working on in Singapore, has received the Green Mark Platinum award, which is the highest award, from the BCA (Building & Construction Authority) in Singapore.

Since the Singapore Government launched the BCA Green Mark scheme in 2005 with an aim to be the world’s best certification towards more eco-friendly buildings, it has been making waves in AsiaㅡChina, India, Malaysia, Vietnam, Cambodia, etc.,ㅡas well as in the Middle East, in Saudi Arabia.

Green Mark, which is one of the world's three famous eco-friendly building rating systems along with LEED from the USA and BREEAM from Britain, has high standards to assess not only the energy - or resource-saving designs, but also the management expenses after the completion of construction, amenity and innovativeness.

The Quayside Isle of the W Hotel Boutique Center, which Ssangyong E & C proceeded designing and constructing under “Design & Build” in January 2011, is characterized with the double glazed low-E glass on the surface of the building exposed to the sun, so that the building maintains the temperature of 24℃ inside.

Also, the Solar Panel is attached to the main part of the roof and motion sensors are installed in toilet, floor and public areas according to the energy saving design that could save 1,370,000kwh annually. Compared to monthly average energy consumption of a household (5 members) in Korea, 300kwh, the saved energy at the building could afford 4,550 households for a month.

In the field, the rainwater cleaning system will be installed to save approximately 9,000 cubic meters of water, which would fill 4 Olympic-sized swimming pools, so that recycled water is to be used for cleaning the toilets, construction work use, cleaning construction vehicles and sprinkling to remove dust.

In addition, materials used for the artificial wood deck on the roof are Green Label certified and it will result in reduction in (CO2) emission to the amount of 747 tons, which has the same effects as planting about 270 thousand pine trees, by using environmentally aware concrete in that it is made from recycled concrete for all the building structures.

The managing director of Ssangyong E & C, In-gang Hwang, said that “since the Green Mark Certification was adopted, three architectures that are constructed or under construction by Ssangyong E & C in Singapore have received the highest level of the awards in each category. We will strengthen our position in the green construction field in Korea and in the world based on our experience in getting the eco-friendly award from the internationally recognized authority.”

In the meantime, Ssangyong E & C has had a history of winning the Green Mark Platinum Award with the Oceanfront @ Seontosa Cove in Singapore as the first residential architecture in May 2007, and its W Singapore Sentosa Cove was awarded the Platinum Award, the first in Asia, in the Hotel category in May 2011.

※ What is Platinum Certification? ‘BCA Green Mark’ from Singapore’s Building and Construction Authority is divided into 4 levels, Platinum, Gold Plus, Gold, and Certified level.
