SsangYong E&C Secures Contract for Gwangju Urban Rail Line 2 Phase 2 Project

SsangYong Engineering ' Construction has won its first contract of the year with the civil engineering project worth over KRW 100 billion.

 

On January 17, the SsangYong E'C Consortium announced that it had secured the contract for the Gwangju Urban Railway Line 2 Phase 2 Section 14 Construction Project, valued at KRW 132.3 billion, following a comprehensive evaluation. The project was commissioned by the Gwangju Metropolitan City Urban Rail Construction Headquarters.

 

Within the consortium, SsangYong E'C plays a leading role with a 51% share (equivalent to KRW 67.5 billion). Other consortium members include WI E'C with 18%, Jung Gyeong Industry with 17%, and Jung Sang with 14%. Over 49% of the consortium shares were allocated to local companies, adhering to Gwangju's regional compulsory joint contract requirements.

 

The Phase 2 Project, initiated four years after the Gwangju Urban Railway Line 2 Phase 1 Project in 2019, involves the construction of a subway for Section 14 running from Singa-dong in Gwangsan-gu to Dongcheon-dong in Seo-gu, Gwangju City. The section measures 2.839km in length, and the project scope also includes the construction of one stop and two ventilation facilities. The project duration is set for 58 months from the commencement date.

 

Song Jun-ho, the head of the Domestic Civil Engineering Division at SsangYong E'C, stated, "Our success in securing this contract is a testament to our technological prowess and know-how, accumulated through years of top-tier performance in railway construction, including the establishment of 182km of high-speed and general railways and 40km of subways nationwide." He added, "We will prioritize quality and safety, striving to successfully complete the project, and continue securing high-quality orders by leveraging our diverse portfolio in the field of public construction."
