Ssangyong E&C received an “International Forum Design Award” in Germany two years running

An entrance door without a doorknob, but has a doorknob appear after a password or card key is used, a box that prevents injuries through the use of an airbag, an emergency helmet in case of disaster: these are the design examples that have drawn acclaim. Ssangyong E&C has received the award two years running.
Isn’t it amazing to have a doorknob appear with just a password on an entrance door which has no apparent doorknob on it or space for one?
You can safely get out of a building in case of fire or other disaster by putting on a helmet with the same idea as how an airbag is inflated.
These are the design examples Ssangyong Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd. (Chairman & CEO S. Joon Kim) submitted to the International Forum Design Award, one of three major design awards in the world. Subsequently Ssangyong E&C was awarded the award two years running.
Ssangyong E&C said that it was awarded the International Forum Design Award 2013 for a concealed door lock and an emergency helmet. It beat out the competition of 4, 352 entries from 51 countries.
The character of the design is such that it breaks with common expectation that there must be a doorknob on an entrance door. The concealed door lock is unique in that it comes out when a password or a card key is input. With this, security is strengthened and also it is more aesthetically pleasing since there is nothing on the door.
An emergency helmet designed in the form of a portable square box becomes a hat when a cap is twisted. It can prevent injuries caused from falling debris in disasters such as in a fire or in earthquakes.
Kim-Jongku, Head manager in Construction and Technology in Ssangyong E&C, said he is planning to apply the idea that emphasizes safety and security as well as design more actively to future construction projects.
The IF Design Award is recognized as the best design award in the world along with the Reddot Design Award in Germany and IDEA (International Design Excellence Awards) in the U.S. Ssangyong E&C has been awarded these awards for its four design works.
