SsangYong E&C obtained KEPIC Certification

2011-12-21

SsangYong E&C (Chairman & CEO, S. Joon, Kim) recently obtained Korea Electric Power Industry Code (KEPIC) certification, and thus laid the basis for advancing into the nuclear power plant market.

The KEPIC certificate, which was developed by the Korea Electric Association to apply a set of codes and standards designed to secure safety and reliability for construction and operation of nuclear power plants, is a prerequisite for being qualified to develop and construct domestic nuclear power plants.

The company also plans to obtain qualification to construct overseas nuclear power plant projects through application for ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineer) certification again in 2012, which it previously obtained back in 1993.

“This KEPIC certification should serve as a catalyst for SsangYong E&C to strengthen its capabilities in the construction of plants including nuclear power, chemical, and water treatment & environmental plants based on its experiences broadened domestically and overseas through the building of Samcheonpo Thermal Power Plant Generators 3 and 4, S-oil Petrochemical Plant, and the Seosan Storage Tank in Korea, and the Tanjung Priok Tank Terminal in Indonesia, and the Jubail Desalination Plant in Saudi Arabia," said a source from SsangYong E&C. “For this, the company is already expanding its plant business division and deploying more resources.“
