Ssangyong Engineering wins reconstruction order for homes in Goyang

2008-06-18

Ssangyong Engineering and Construction Co. was finally selected as a builder for a reconstruction project to build apartments in Neunggok, Todang-dong, Deokyang-district, Goyang city of Gyeonggi province, beating a previous bidder, which had won the order before a law governing repair of city and residential environment.

In June 2003, when the project was at an initial stage, an association of residents in Neunggok selected the previous builder. But, the selection was nullified because the law, which requires an association of residents to get an approval for a reconstruction project before selecting a builder, came into force in July 2003.

Under the order, Ssangyong Engineering will build nine 24-story apartment buildings at the site sized 33,066 square meters. The apartment complex consists of 203 homes (78 square meters each), 378 homes (110 square-meters each) and 86 homes (157 square meters each).

The prospects for the apartment complex are bright as a government-led housing development district is located nearby it and other new-town projects are under review in Neunggok and Wondang.

After a subway station in Neunggok is completed in 2009, it will take 30 minutes for residents in the area to arrive at Yongsan station in central Seoul. The area also lies adjacent to highways, an expressway to the Incheon International Airport and the Haengshin station for the KTX bullet train and the Daegok station, a transit point between a metropolitan subway Line 3 and the Gyeongeui line.

Construction will begin in July 2009 after completing demolition from November 2008 to June 2009. The project will be completed by September 2011.
