Yega designated as the Good Design(GD)

2006-10-30

Two models of elevators standardized by SsangYong, and SsangYong Yega in Ochang were designated as good industrial designs, and earned Good Design marks at “the 2006 Good Industrial Design Contest” on October 30. The contest was hosted by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy, and organized by the Korea Institute of Design Promotion.

The Good Design program grants GD marks to individual products for their excellent design, after a panel of experts comprised of international professional designers assesses their functionality, economy, and stability, as well as artistic value and beauty.

SsangYong Yega Ochang became the first to win the GD mark for the entire exterior design, as opposed to a specific part of the apartment complex.

The complex features a layout arrangement wherein a deck is mounted between the first and the second floors, with the first level having a parking lot and a garden with natural lighting, and with the second level having a theme park. The park uses the theme of the five human senses, namely sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch. The ground level has no parking lots. With such a layout and design, the complex is considered the best among apartment complexes in the Ochang Science Industrial Complex.

SsangYong held regular meetings with future residents during the construction period, gathered opinions and accepted requests and demands calling for improvement. In addition, the Company created a waterfall and a small creek inside the complex, and increased the variety of garden trees to present a distinguished landscape and exterior design. As a result, it received a plaque of appreciation from residents.

The “Classic” and “High-Tech Design” models of the three elevators standardized by SsangYong also earned the GD marks.

The products, which have been recognized by the government, include an elevator of European traditional and luxurious design that was introduced to Seoul and other upscale areas for high income people in their 40s and 50s. This was part of an effort to differentiate the exterior design of apartments by region (location), age of residents and size. Another elevator features a futuristic design integrating bold colors and graphics for middle income people in their 30s in New Towns and residential districts developed by the government. These products had been registered for intellectual property rights in August 2006.

Meanwhile, the standardized designs of the elevators were the first proposed by Manager Huh Dong-Young of the Electrical Engineering & Construction Department through an in-house suggestion program, and were picked as the best idea in October.
