SsangYong’s Yega worksite in Taepyeong-dong, Daejeon (the worksite chief: General Manager Choi Young-Cheol) was designated as an exemplary worksite in self-regulated safety management by the Daejeon Labor Office on November 30, 2006 and a ceremony was held to install a hanging board “certifying the sixth worksite of self-regulated safety management.”

The ceremony was attended by dignitaries, including Kim Maeng-Ryong, the chief of the Daejeon Labor Office; Kyung Chang-Soo, head of the Daejeon branch of the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency; and Park Geon-Ok, Executive Director of the Chungcheong Today newspaper, as well as Executive Director Kim Kang, and the worksite chief Choi Young-Cheol. The ceremony started with remarks of encouragement by the labor office chief, recitation of a Declaration, chanting of accident-free worksite pledge, and the installation of the safety certification plaque.

The worksite has been running a systematic safety management system, by setting a safety management plan in advance and implementation when placing staff on new tasks, and by specifying safety requirement criteria about tasks in the pledge of safety. Also, it formed a three-member safety inspection team and has been running the team in order to take preemptive actions to remove safety hazards, and reinforced safety education for workers during the framing work of apartment buildings, setting a model for other construction sites nearby.

Executive Director Kim Kang said at the ceremony that “SsangYong is making all-out efforts to prevent accidents at more than 100 worksites at home and abroad,” adding that “We will continue to maintain the honor and fame as a builder with the safest worksites by developing and introducing systemic safety management systems, going forward.”
