Chairman&CEO S. Joon Kim attended the “Korea-ASEAN CEO Summit,” which was held at the Jeju International Convention Center on the southern resort island of Jeju from May 31 to June 1.
In attendance were more than 400 people, including South Korean President Lee Myung-bak and heads of states from ASEAN member countries, as well as business leaders from Korea, including Chairman&CEO Kim. The summit was convened to allow Korea and ASEAN member countries to tackle the global economic crisis through economic exchange and pursue co-prosperity under the theme, “Change, Challenge, and Collaboration for Asia’s Prosperity,”

Chairman&CEO Kim said, “The event will help upgrade the bilateral relationship between Korea and ASEAN,” adding, “By making thorough preparations, Korea will have to use such an opportunity to expand personnel exchange.” Afterwards, Chairman&CEO Kim attended a dinner hosted by President Lee Myung-bak that was held at the Crystal Ballroom at Lotte Hotel Jeju. On June 2, he also participated in a dinner meeting with Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong hosted by Korea’s four business organizations and held at the Shilla Hotel guesthouse in Jeju to promote economic cooperation and friendship between Korea and Singapore. The meeting was attended by some 30 Singaporean government officials, including Prime Minister Lee, and some 90 Korean representatives, including Korean Ambassador to Singapore Kim Jung-keun, Chairman&CEO Kim Ki-moon of the Korean Federation of Small and Medium Business, and Chairman Sohn Kyung-shik of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Prime Minister Lee said in his official congratulatory remarks at the meeting that he was deeply impressed by Ssangyong’s performance in Singapore, as he introduced the company that is constructing the Marina Bay Sands Hotel ahead of all other Korean firms operating in Singapore. On June 3, as the Korean representative of the Korea-Singapore Economic Council, Chairman&CEO Kim also attended a welcome dinner for Singaporean Prime Minister Lee hosted by President Lee Myung-bak at the Sangchunjae reception house at the presidential office of Cheong Wa Dae. The dinner was attended by 13 senior officials from Singapore, and 14 persons from the Korean government and business community, including Chairman&CEO Kim.
