2005-11-01

Ssangyong Eng. & Const. (President: Kim Suk-jun) was selected as the contractor for a 1,158-household housing refurbishment project in Gupo, Busan. On October 29th, the Gupo, Busan No.5 Zone Housing Refurbishment Cooperative (Representative: Lee Chun-geun) said that Ssangyong Eng. & Const. had been selected as the contractor at a session being held with 284 delegates and 255 or 89.7 percent of them agreed.

With this, the 20,713-pyeong (= 17 acres) site at 715-9 Gupo-dong, Buk-gu, Busan will be refurbished as an apartment complex comprising fifteen 18 ~ 27-story buildings (with two-stories underground) housing a total of 1,158 households (i.e. ▲ seventy-two 15 pyeong (50㎡)-sized units, ▲ thirty-four 19 pyeong (63㎡)-sized units, ▲ one hundred seventy 24 pyeong (80㎡)-sized units, ▲ three hundred 34 pyeong (113㎡)-sized units, ▲ two hundred thirty-three 42 pyeong (139㎡)-sized units, ▲ forty-four 48 pyeong (159㎡)-sized units, ▲ one hundred ninety-eight 49 pyeong (162㎡)-sized units, ▲ nineteen 54 pyeong (179㎡)-sized units, and ▲ eighty-eight 57 pyeong (188㎡)-sized units. The work will start in June 2008 and likely to be completed in March 2011, with existing residence starting to move out in July 2007

The site is easily accessible by train or by subway, with KTX Gupo Station and Busan Subway No.2 and 3 Deokcheon Station nearby, also from the Namhae Highway and the Gupo-Yangsan Highway. It also offers a nice scenic view, with Mt. Baekyang located at the east and the Naktong River flowing at the west. A rapid growth of the area is expected, as it is included in the development plan for west Busan.

A Ssangyong official said, “Following the Government’s announcement of the plan for cracking down real estate speculation particularly in the Gangnam area of Seoul last August, which is expected to cause delay in large square refurbishment projects in the area, construction businesses are looking for some business opportunities in the provincial areas. In Busan, housing refurbishment projects are being promoted briskly, with 80 sites designated for refurbishment until the end of 2004 and additional 102 more sites in this last September. Seven of them selected their contractors in the past two months.”

After an expansion of its Busan Branch’s territory to the entire Gyeongsang area in order to fulfill the brisk housing refurbishment demands in the area in 2004, the company won a 1,000-unit housing refurbishment project in Beomcheon-dong, Busan last July, besides the project mentioned above.
