Jeonju Worldcup Stadium awarded a prize for the remarkable work of steel structure

Jeonju Worldcup Stadium, hand-overed by Ssangyong in Oct. 2001, was awarded a special prize in the occasion of 9th POSCO Steel Structure Construction Prizes by Korea Society of Steel Construction on July 22, 2002.
The steel structure work is highly recognized with its unique and artistic design. The characteristic four columns of roof support remind Sotdae, traditional shaman symbols in Korea usually found in the entrance of traditional villages, and the supporting cables also symbolize the 12 strings of Gayagum, a traditional stringed musical instrument of graceful sound.
During the 2002 Korea-Japan Worldcup, many people of the world also complimented on the stadium’s outward beauty concreting the image of Hapjukseon, the traditional folding fan made of bamboo, specially produced in Jeonju and nearby area.
