2007-11-02

A consortium led by Ssangyong Engineering & Construction Co. was selected on Nov. 2 as a preferred bidder by the Busan City Corp. to develop a tour resort in Haeundae, the city’s beachfront. The project is the first project financing business between private companies and the local government.

The project, with a target to transform Haeundae into a world-class, four-season tourist destination, calls for the consortium to build a 460-room hotel and a 841-room condominium as well as a spa, a water park, a large-scale site to show off sea animals and a facility that lets people see scenes under the sea. The project will be start in January 2009 and be completed by February 2013.

In particular, the consortium will build a 117-story, 511-meter building and an 85-story, 396-meter building on 49,900-square-meters of land as part of the project.
The project cost a total of 1.2 trillion won and Ssangyong Engineering owns an 8 percent stake or 960 billion won.

Meanwhile, the tour resort in Haeundae is expected to attract some four million foreign and domestic visitors a year.
