Ssayngyong wins Platinum Green Mark at BCA Awards 2007

2007-05-10

The Oceanfront Condominium built by Ssangyong Engineering & Construction won the BCA Green Mark Platinum certification, the first of its kind awarded to a residential building, at the BCA Awards 2007, held at the Raffles City Convention Center in Singapore on May 10.

The Building & Construction Authority (BCA) of the Singaporean government, known for its stringent standards in construction supervision, adopted the BCA Green Mark certification system in 2005 in order to encourage construction of environment-friendly buildings. The certification is provided in four levels, i.e. Platinum, Gold Plus, Gold and Certified Rating, based on scores concerning efficiency in saving energy and water, general building operation, indoor environment and innovation.

The Platinum-certified Oceanfront Condominium is comprised of 264 units in five 11to 15 story buildings complete with rooftop swimming pools and gardens, as well as flower beds in balconies, in consultation with energy experts. The buildings also feature the use of horizontally-laid aluminum louver for the façade and of Low-E glass with a high light permeation rate and low heat conductivity, to lower the building temperature and maximize energy efficiency.

The evaluators spoke highly of the CCTV, lighting and air-conditioning systems using solar heat, the waste water reuse facility, the carbon monoxide sensors and the automatic ventilation fan in the basement, and the creation of green spaces utilizing existing plants and trees.

A Ssangyong official said, “The certification is expected to enhance our prestige as a contractor specializing in high-end architecture. We won the Platinum certification, a certification even higher than the Gold Plus certification demanded by the Client, thus providing the Client with prize money amounting to about KRW 170 million. With this, the prospect of Ssangyong winning additional projects has become brighter.”
