Ssangyong E&C established the first overseas branch office in Kuwait in September 1978 and won the order for the construction of LeMeridien Amman Hotel(formerly known as “Shmaisani Center”) in October same year. It was the first overseas construction project for Ssangyong E&C and at the time it was the biggest multi-purpose building in the Middle East.

The Jordan Housing Bank placed the order for the project and the hotel has a gross floor area of 82,702㎡ and consists of 4 blocks, including block A with 2 floors underground and 20 floors aboveground that accommodates offices and shops, block B with 2 floors underground and 20 floors aboveground that comprises of hotel and shops, block C with 2 floor underground and 1 floor aboveground that includes a swimming pool and dance hall, and block D which is an underground water tank.

The project posed many problems, as the architecture and supervisory firm’s suggested building design was unconventional and the client frequently changed the design. However, as the project was the first overseas construction for the company and could become the stepping stone for it to expand into the Middle Eastern market, the headquarters and the employees on the construction site actively responded to the problems and could successfully complete the project.

Though it was the first overseas construction project for the company, it successfully completed the project and could win additional orders for the construction of the Arab Bank Headquarters and the Shabsough Garage & Commercial Complex.
