Ssangyong E&C won the contract for the West Lake International Hotel, now Sofitel Plaza Hanoi, in 0ctober, 1995 ordered by West Lake International which had a joint business with a Singaporean company. With this, Ssangyong E&C suggested a new direction in cooperation with the firm from a third country.
The construction consisted of one building with 23 stories above ground and a podium with five stories above ground with 325 rooms and a building area of 39, 048㎡. Ssangyong E&C constructed a Retractable Swimming pool for the first time in Hanoi. This collected great interest from the local population.
