Ssangyong E&C wins award for its 3-D building designs

Ssangyong Engineering and Construction, a major builder in Korea, said yesterday that it received a Building Information Modeling (BIM) award in Singapore, making it the first local construction company to do so.
The award, given out by Singapore’s Building and Construction Authority (BCA) for the first time this year, evaluates BIM productivity, operation and quality. Ssangyong received the highest score in private projects and grabbed the Gold Plus award.
Ssangyong said that Singapore has been pushing its builders to use a high-tech 3-D building design method. Since 2013, the city-state has mandated that all private building projects exceeding 20,000 square meters use the BIM method, which will be extended to structures of more than 5,000 square meters (4.9 acres) starting next year. The system saves on costs and time. Ssangyong, known for building Singapore’s Marina Bay Sands hotel, was the first Korean builder to adopt the BIM system in 2009.
