Ssangyong wins the 2010 BIM Awards Designated as the best BIM constructor of the year

Ssangyong's State Tower in Mt. Namsan won the Grand Award in Korea's only BIM awards
Using BIM allows optimal architectural design, savings of 7 months, in addition to 50 billion won of government-ordered projects under mandatory BIM rules, making Ssangyong the competitive bidding contender.
Ssangyong Construction announced that its State Tower in Mt. Namsan received the Grand Award in 2010 BIM (Building Information Modeling) Awards, the most honorable award in construction.
BIM Awards, which marks its second year, is Korea's only BIM-related award. It is hosted by the Building Smart Association and sponsored by the Presidential Commission on Architectural Policy, Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs, Ministry of Knowledge Economy and Public Procurement Service.
This year’s Grand Award winner, State Tower in Mt. Namsan, established the BIM center and managed the whole construction process by using three-dimensional models for the first time in Korea. Instead of the existing bottom-up approach, in which buildings are constructed from the ground up, the State Tower took a semi Top-down approach, building both basement and upper floors at the same time. This allowed the construction tower to be finished seven months ahead of schedule.
In addition, Ssangyong rearranged the construction schedules, equipment operation and the order of construction procedures by identifying to what extent the equipment must move around and if there is any possibility for collision between work structures. Furthermore, the constructor carefully calculated the time frame and volume of construction material purchase. All these efforts helped Ssangyong to address the complexity of constructing a building in the center of a metropolitan city.
"Ssangyong boasts the best record in applying BIM to a variety of areas, such as construction in general, remodeling, and railway and subway construction. If the use of BIM becomes mandatory in Turn-key and architectural design competition construction bidding ordered by the government, which is worth more than 50 billion won, then Ssangyong will be in a good position to win the it," said one of the construction members.
