2010-05-26

BCA Green Mark is one of the top 3 environment-friendly certifications being implemented in Asia and 7 other Middle-Eastern countries. Having assessed energy saving and geniality, etc, W Singapore Sentosa Cove hotel in Singapore won the Green Mark Platinum, the highest level.

Ssangyong Construction has taken charge of both design and construction, and proved to be the most outstanding company in the field of eco-friendly construction.

Mr. Kim, S.Joon the chairman and CEO of Ssangyong Construction, announced that W Singapore Sentosa Cove Hotel, which is under construction by the company, won the Green Mark Platinum, the highest level of BCA Certification from BCA/Building & Construction Authorities.

The BCA Green Mark Scheme was launched in 2005 by the Singaporean government with the purpose of establishing the world’s foremost authority in environment-friendly certification. Since then, Asian countries like China, India, Malaysia, Vietnam, Cambodia, and also Saudi Arabia in the Middle-East have adapted and implemented the scheme.
It's authority is now being recognized as one of the world’s top 3 environment-certifications.

The assessment categories of the BCA Green Mark Scheme are so delicate that they evaluate the range of energy and resource reduction from the design stage to maintenance cost, comfort, innovation after completion. It is first time for any hotel among the 7 countries which adapted the scheme to award Green Mark Platinum.

The main feature of W Singapore Sentosa Cove Hotel, developed by SSangyong Construction under “Design & Build” on Oct. 2010, is its ability to maintain room temperature under 24℃ without air-conditioning in Singapore where average annual temperatures are in the range of 32℃ to 34℃.

By analyzing the Sun’s path and the amount of sunshine throughout the year, low heat conductive “Low-E glass”, which blocks heat in daytime and absorbs heat at night, was applied to the construction of the W Singapore Sentosa Cove hotel.

The interior density of formalin of the hotel was designed to be lower the standards of official clean air standards (0.08ppm) of the U.S. and Korea; moreover, noise reduction was seriously considered to maintain under 40 dB, which is lower than the standards (50~58dB) of residential buildings in Korea.

Cost reductions have resulted from various activities. For example, installing motion-detection sensors in public places like lavatories and stairs, and recycling 2/3 of rain water. These activities have reduced costs by approximately 520,000,000 won annually.

Mr. Park, Yong-Chang, the Managing Director of overseas business, said, “The Green Mark Scheme is commonly validated in Asian and the Middle-East countries, which are pushing forward development of the nation in a environment-friendly manner, preparing resource depletion in the future; therefore, W Singapore Sentosa Cove hotel’s awarding Green Mark Platinum, the highest level, might give us the world class competitive edge in the field”

In addition, Ssangyoung Construct had already won The Green Mark Platinum in 2005, 2007 by building Tan Tok Seng Hospital and The Oceanfront @ Seontosa Cove.

The fact that the market value of Ocean Front Apartment has risen from its original sales price of about 20,000,000 ~30,000,000 won to 43,000,000 won, while its penthouses are being traded at the higher price of, roughly 4,000,000,000 won, more than its initial sales price, demonstrates the effects of the environment-friendly certification.
