World-famous tunnel experts inspected Subway Line No.9 in Seoul

2006-04-27

On April 27, while attending the ITA WTC 2006 seminar, forty world-famous tunnel experts from France, Belgium, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Japan visited Sector 913 of the Seoul Subway Line No.9 worksite in Banpo-dong for inspection of the state-of-the-art methods, i.e. TRcM (Tubular Roof Construction Method) and CAM (Cellular Arch Method).

Ssangyong E&C employed these methods to build a station without affecting the existing underground sections of Shinsegye Department Store, the Marriot Hotel, Central City and other shopping arcades.

The two methods have never been employed in Korea, and CAM got its fame as an advanced method employed for Venice Station in Italy. Sector 913 of the Seoul Subway Line No.9 worksite became the first worksite to employ the two methods together. Sector 913 is a 1,880 m section leading to the Expressway Bus Station Terminal in Seocho-dong, which is comprised of 1,505.5 m of the main line and 375.5 m for the two stations.

The ITA WTC 2006 seminar was held at the COEX in Seoul for six days from April 22 on the theme of Safety in the Underground Space, with 150 world-famous tunnel experts from 20 countries attending.
